Resources about nature in Florida

The Identification Process:
Use these resources for figuring out what birds you want to see/what you saw

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_birds_of_Florida - wiki...it covers everything, even Floridian birds!

http://www.whatbird.com/browse/objs/All/birds_na_147/38/Location/5388/Florida - great resource for learning about different Floridian birds or id'ing birds after you take a photo :)

http://www.tsuru-bird.net/vireos/index.html - picture gallery of vireos. If you know vireos, you know why this is important :)

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/birds/sounds.htm - pictures and sounds of Floridian birds!

http://www.whatbird.com/browse/objs/All/birds_na_147/59/Family/11120/Wood%20Warblers%20(Parulidae)/default.aspx - same page as before...this one focuses on warblers for the same reason as the vireos.

*Once finding out the name of a bird with a generic photo, I then look up the name of that bird in google images, since there is variation in the color and side of each bird with the same ID.

Where Should I Go Today?
Resources for determining what species are where

http://www.tropicalaudubon.org/tasboard/ - you can post to this board without being a member! However, you might just want to puruse this resource to find out where the best place to go is to see the birds you want!

To join another listserv, email LISTSERV@LISTSERV.ADMIN.USF.EDU with nothing in the subject line, and "subscribe brdbrain" ONLY in the body of the email.  They will send you a follow-up email with the next steps to subscribe to this listserv. The following information is what they claim say is they provide on the listserv (and as such, what you'll get out of it):

1) to provide the latest information on noteworthy birds in the state
2) to share information on the status of migrating, wintering, and breeding species in various areas of the state
3) to share current knowledge about identification of difficult species
4) to help beginning birders become more proficient in their birding skills
5) to share interesting experiences/sightings related to birding trips (e.g., snakes,
butterflies, plants, etc.)

6) and to just have fun birding!!
